Vintage RARE 1960's Shure 578S dynamic microphone High Z w accessories SM-76 578

  

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a somewhat rare Shure Brothers 578S model Omnidyne (omni-directional) dynamic microphone from the 1960's / 70's. This was a very modern design for Shure at the time and has a sleek, clean look to it. This was great for general broadcasting and is set at High impedance.

It comes with the Shure mic pouch in which to store the mic when not in use and a small, new exterior foam pop filter to help with unwanted feedback while live. You can see the mics characteristics in pic # 2 from an old Shure catalog I have. The 578 microphone was short run production Shure microphone manufactured for about 10 to 15 years and had an incredibly small dynamic element for it's time with a clean dual impedance sound and one of Shure Brothers most expensive dynamic mics available. The mic was great for broadcasting purposes or recording purposes. This example is no different.

Signal is 100% and very strong but again, high Z so there is virtually no bass in the tone. As you can see in the pictures provided...

This 578S is in good overall condition having a few spots of wear. There is some corrosion on a portion of the tube and some other small spots here and there. Still a great looking mic.

The Shure label looks pretty good and completely legible. The on / off switch label looks very nice and works perfectly.

The front screen is free of any tarnish or dents. Physically it's an easy 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The joint mechanism giving the mic a wide degree of tilt up and down.

The mic itself is 11 inches long. The mics XLR pins were cleaned for a perfect signal once the cable is attached. Mic takes a standard XLR cable though none is provided. The newer vinyl Shure mic pouch is included. Perfect condition and a great place to store the mic when not in use or while transporting.

Will keep your mic free of physical damage. You'll see there is a small black foam pop filter that slides firmly over the tip of the mic. This will really come in handy as the original inner pop filters under the front screen always degrade from age. The front screens can be very difficult to remove because there were originally glued into place. I could not remove the front screen so the exterior pop filter does the same job (but better) as the original.

The exterior pop filter looks really nice on the mic as well. The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand though a stand is provided.
