Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. Here's a sweet gem you don't come across very often. This is the very hard to come by Stromberg Carlson DY1248CL model omni-directional dynamic microphones based on the more common Shure 51 model. This particular example shown sounds like new with a strong clear signal and zero issues.
It should be noted that the impedance switch on this mic works perfectly as well. The mic comes with a short cable in which to operate. The Evanston models were made from 1957 onwards and looked identical to the early 51 model.
Shure eventually changed the look of the Shure 51 in 1960 changing the lower pistol grip and putting black silk screens inside instead of the early red silk screens. After 1964 Shure changed the model to the black foam screens. I believe Shure Brothers stopped manufacturing this mic in 1969 or 1970. These mics have a little weight to them being almost 2 pounds. The 51 has clean, deco styling with elegant looks and was a favorite microphone used for several years by musical legend Nat King Cole earlier in his career as seen in pictures # 2. This is a Chicago built mic so it was the earlier version and it's really clean. This is only the 3rd example I have come across in the past 12 years and probably won't get another in for many years to come. If you always wanted a Stromberg variant you'll want to move on this one quick before it's gone. Pic # 3 is of an old Shure mic catalog I have showing the 51 and it's basic characteristics.
This Shure 51 has the satin chrome finish with all metal construction making the mic quite rugged. This mic has a dirtier "rockabilly" tone that many musicians like to replicate today.
If that is the sound you are going for then you are going to like this mic. The Shure 51 is an omni-directional microphone. Void of any bass really and excellent as a harp mic. The finish shows virtually no wear as seen in the pictures provided. There are no engravings, pitting, scratches or dents on the satin chrome finish. The ribs are straight with no fractures or dents. The joint mechanism holds strong like it should as well and can be tightened as needed with a screw driver. The red silk screen has extremely lite discoloration but zero holes or rips and it's all original. Free of any odors too. I'd rate this mic a true 9 on a scale of 1 - 10. The threading for the stand is perfect as is for the cable. Included is a short 3 pin cable with male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers. The cable is soft, pliable and free of any wear. This mic will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand you might be using. MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...
