Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. You are looking at a very nice 1970's era Shure Brothers PE585V / 585SAV dynamic cardioid microphone with the adjustable volume High impedance knob, short mic cable and mic clip shown. This was basically a more sophisticated version of the common Shure 585SA model due to it's built in volume control knob. Pic # 2 shows a pic of this very model from an old 1970's Shure catalog. This happened to be a favorite model to use for James Cotton back in the day while performing live and this mic is often referred to as "The James Cotton Mic" because of that.
The volume knob on these older mics usually don't work very well from my personal experience but I take the time to disassemble them and clean them out. This one works perfectly again as it should. You'll notice that the volume does come on quickly at about the half way point but the signal strength is consistent with no glitches and there really isn't any point having a volume knob if it doesn't work properly right? This microphone is great for vocals and general broadcasting but can even used as a great harp microphone with it's High impedance setting.
I find it has more of a mid range tone. This makes a great harp mic as well. The satin chrome finish shows extremely lite signs of wear as seen in the pics provided. Just a couple scuff marks. They rarely come any nicer than this.
The Shure logo that encircles the globe looks very good and completely legible. The actual chrome globe is free of any tarnish or dents and I added a new inner foam liner to the inside of the globe as the old one had completely fell apart. This helps greatly with the sound characteristics. The new foam will cut down on any unwanted "pops" you get when breathing close or in windy conditions. This PE585V comes with a short vintage 7 inch Amphenol cable that's in great usable condition and comes with a male Switchcraft male XLR end connector. The cable is soft and pliable.
Free of any cracks or dry rot. Simply attach any longer XLR cable of choice to operate. Just leave the short cable on as it's far more practical then screwing on and off the cable every single time.
The mic clip is a new Shure A25 model and it works excellent for this mic giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down and hold the mic tightly. The clip shows no wear.
It will screw onto any desk or floor stand you use. This mic is ready to go. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE... USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
Overall I would rate this mic an 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department but I would recommend actually using this piece rather than for display. She's got plenty of life left in her. Made right here in America and built to last! As with all my vintage microphone and related items.. I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. Simply return in the same nice condition... International buyers are welcome as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask and..
