Those clean lines and deco styling make this mic stand out from all the others produced over the last century. Made in Evanston, IL U. This mic is a beautiful piece of midcentury Americana.
In 1961 it was only black silk screens which eventually changed to black foam screens around 1964. This is a 1961 to 64 model. It should be noted that while this mic still works... The element is compromised and it lacks the warm bass normally associated with a good working 55S.
It has a more of a "rockabilly" sound. More high pitched and quite a bit weaker than it should be.
Therefore it really should be used for display or prop purposes. It will still make a very nice display piece anywhere it sits in the house, studio or office.
As seen in the pics provided this 55S is in very good cosmetic condition. The satin chrome finish still has a nice luster to it despite a few scratches, nicks and tiny bubbling in a couple spots. Zero broken or bent ribs. The black silk screens are evenly colored with zero holes or rips which is always a bonus. Mic is solid inside and out. I secure the element as they become loose after years of use. The joint mechanism holds strong and the Shure label looks very nice. The mic stand thread and cable thread are perfect. Overall this mic is a very conservative 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. A very nice example of a 60 year old Shure 55 S.STAND SHOWN IS PART OF SALE.. It's a period Atlas cast iron desk stand from the 1960's era and perfect for just about any older vintage microphone. The design shows that it's clearly an early generation DS-14 desk stand made in Brooklyn, NY or Parsippnay, NJ. There is a few small chips on the black paint and lite rust stains on the bottom of the base but overall this is a very good DS-14.
This stand had a very modern and sleek design looking like something out of Star Trek. There was no other stand that had ever looked remotely close to this and it is still being made today. Total length is 4 inches high x 7 inches deep X 5 3/4 inches wide making this a fairly lite weight and stable platform for most mics. The chrome stem shows extremely lite wear.
Please let the detailed pics be your guide. All 3 felt pads are new and are in excellent condition. Mic with stand is appx 11 inches tall.
As with all my vintage microphones.. I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. Simply return in the same nice condition... INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well.
