Vintage 1954 Stromberg Carlson MC-41 dynamic microphone Shure 55 S Elvis w stand

  

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a rare variant of the 1950's era Shure 55 S microphone. This MC-41 is a 1954 model and comes with the Atlas DS-5 model mic stand as seen in the pictures provided. As you can see the satin chrome body shows typical wear with small corrosion, nicks and scratches. Despite the cosmetic wear there are no fractures or engravings anywhere.

The ribs are completely straight. The rarer burgundy silk screens shows just lite fading with just one small tear in the left rear screen. Often these old 55 mics are stained with tobacco as smoking was quite popular back in the day.

You won't find any of that on this mic. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and a wide degree of tilt. The label looks pretty darn good and you can see by the serial number that it's a 1954 model.

It should be noted that this mic is in non-working condition with it's original cardioid dynamic element so it should be used for display, prop or repair purposes until properly fixed. This mic was originally intended for singing and broadcasting. This MC-41 has the adjustable impedance switch for low, medium and high impedance. This mic is hardly a gem but it's a good example overall and I would rate it an conservative 6 cosmetically on a scale of 1 - 10. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE.. It's an Atlas DS-5 model cast iron desk stand in good overall condition that compliments the mic nicely and shows the same amount of wear. The base has original paint and is free of any dents or chips but there is noticeable discoloration in the paint and some scratches.

The chrome riser has wear too in the form of some chrome loss. The 3 original rubber pads are still on the bottom of the base keeping the stand from scratching any surface it may rest on. There is surface rust stains on the bottom of the base. Total height of the mic and stand is 11 1/2 inches tall X 6 inches wide.

A great conversation piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office. The screws have been oiled to prevent seizure as this can happen in these older mics and the element has been properly secured as they come loose over the years.
