Vintage 1950'S Bogen (Shure 55) Dynamic Microphone- good shape & sound! Fatboy

Offering a very rare vintage late 1940's BOGEN SOUND Model U10X Unidyne "Fatboy" Dynamic Microphone. The condition of this mic is good with some mild wear and a slightly warped rib on the front bottom left side.

See photos #3 & 11. Testing produces strong output and clean full fidelity. This model has a selectable impedance switch, L, M, H, and works well on all 3 positions.

The black grill cloth material is flawless and there are no loose or rattling internals. The original Bogen badge is intact although faded but still readable, with a pivot joint holding the tilt angle firmly and clean undamaged threads. Includes the short 3 pin Amphenol connector cable with XLR plug, and the heavy based Atlas desk stand with chromed riser tube. Not only is this Bogen/Shure model one of the best looking mics ever made, it also introduced a breakthrough technology in using just a single dynamic element and achieving pattern control. Shure developed the mic element in the 1930's, using small ports that allowed sound waves to reach both sides of a diaphragm at different times, resulting in a more linear frequency response.

The design is called UNIDYNE (short for Unidirectional Dynamic), and its a basis of many designs today, including another icon, the SM58. The combination of great sound, compact size, cardioid pattern and classic styling made this mic an instant hit. By the 1950's, it was so recognizable that a company advertisement simply featured a picture of the mic and copy reading Used the World Over More Than Any Other Microphone and The Microphone That Needs No Name.
