Vintage 1940's Shure 55C Fatboy dynamic cardioid microphone Elvis w accessories

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a pristine 1940's era Shure Brothers 55C model (1st generation) dynamic cardioid microphone often referred to as the "Fatboy" made famous by several musicians including a young Elvis Presley himself. Classic, clean deco lines give this mic the attention it deserves. This 55C made it's debut in 1939 and had a run of 11 years until the second generation of smaller 55 S mics came along in 1951. A cast zinc body with a glossy satin chrome finish. It comes with the period cable in which to operate and an old Shure box shown. The 55 model had the adjustable impedance switch while the 55A, 55B and 55C did not and all had factory settings of high, Med and Low impedance. That being said this microphone has been tested and still works very well with the original element still inside. These mics are not as strong as todays dynamic cardioid mics so a little gain will certainly help. These older 55's very rarely work at all or good enough to use so this will be appreciated by a musician who needs one that does. The 55C was factory set at high impedance but don't be fooled.

There is a bit of bass in the tone. This mic has a very smooth warm sound. This is the best 55 I have come across in over 5 years and certainly in the top 2% of what's left out there.

A nice early 55 is getting hard to find. The ribs are free of any fractures or dents. Both the front and rear black silk screens are evenly colored and look like new but they are in fact original. A real gem of a mic. The satin chrome finish has an incredible luster. There is zero pitting, dents or engravings. One tiny scratch on the bottom pistol grip.

The Shure badge shows very lite wear and but completely legible. This one still has the original front and rear grills. No mix matching on my mics. The stand thread still screws onto any stand you choose to use and the joint mechanism holds strong. This Shure 55C is an easy 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

The mic comes with an original 16 foot cable in which to operate. The cable is soft, pliable and free of damage.

It has the male 1/4 inch end connector that work with most audio equipment. The old Shure box is included as well. Shows typical wear but it's a nice accessory and a good place to store the mic when not in use. This is the nicest 55 series mic you could hope for and you'll be very hard pressed to find another in such nice overall shape. If you demand the best then this will certainly do the job.
