Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a 1940's era Shure Brothers 55 model (1st generation) dynamic cardioid microphone often referred to as the "Fatboy" made famous by several musicians including a young Elvis Presley himself. Classic, clean deco lines give this mic the attention it deserves.
This 55 made it's debut in 1939 and had a run of 11 years until the second generation of smaller 55 S mics came along in 1951. A cast zinc body with a glossy satin chrome finish. It comes with the period cable in which to operate shown. The 55 model had the adjustable impedance switch while the 55A, 55B and 55C did not and all had factory settings of high, Med and Low impedance.
That being said this microphone has been tested and still works with the original element still inside. These mics are not as strong as todays dynamic cardioid mics so a little gain will certainly help.
These older 55's very rarely work at all or good enough to use so this will be appreciated by a musician who needs one that does. The mic has just the right amount of bass with a warm smooth tone. A nice early 55 is getting hard to find. The ribs are free of any fractures or dents. Both the front and rear red silk screens are evenly colored and look very nice.
It should be noted that this mic was professionally re-silked years ago. The blue silk is not original but it's extremely close to the original used and looks fantastic. The satin chrome finish has an incredible luster. There is zero pitting, scratches, dents or engravings. The Shure badge shows typical wear and but completely legible. The only issue with this mic is that the lower pistol grip has a little play just below the joint mechanism.
The lower pistol grips have a rivet that holds the two lower sections together and while this is still holding well there is just the smallest play so it the mic will wobble just slightly once attached to a stand. This one still has the original front and rear grills. No mix matching on my mics. The stand thread still screws onto any stand you choose to use and the joint mechanism holds strong. This mic is far above average for a Shure 55 and an easy 9 on a scale of 1 - 10.The mic comes with an original 16 foot cable in which to operate. The cable is soft, pliable and free of damage. It has the male 1/4 inch end connector that work with most audio equipment. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...
USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you happen to have. I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. Simply return in the same nice condition...International buyers are welcome as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...
