Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a rare variant of the 1950's era Shure 55 S microphone. This MC-41 is a 1959 model and comes with the original mic cover and shortened cable as seen in the pictures provided. As you can see the satin chrome body shows typical wear with small corrosion, scuff marks and scratches.
Despite the cosmetic wear there are no fractures or engravings anywhere. The ribs are very nice but there is a small dent in the lower front left grill. I secure the element on these mics as they are always loose from years of use.
The element will cause a ton of unwanted feedback if not secured inside so I do that with every 55S that comes my way. The Royal Blue silk screens shows zero fading or holes. Often these old 55 mics are stained with tobacco as smoking was quite popular back in the day. You won't find any of that on this mic.
The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and a wide degree of tilt. The label looks pretty darn good and you can see by the serial number that it's a 1959 model. It should be noted that this mic is in great working condition with it's original cardioid dynamic element but can also be used for display or prop purposes if needed. This mic was originally intended for singing and broadcasting. This MC-41 has the adjustable impedance switch for low, medium and high impedance. This mic has more of a clear tone that's more mid range and has what I would describe as a "Rockabilly" sound. Excellent uni-directional characteristics as well. I would rate it an conservative 7 cosmetically on a scale of 1 - 10. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...
USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. The original red Shure mic felt cover is included and it's in very nice condition and it's a good place to store the mic while not in use. You can simply slide it over the mic as well once on the stand. It keeps the moisture and dust off the mic which causes pitting to the satin chrome finish. The short 8 inch cable has been modified.
It's not balanced however though it has the standard Switchcraft male XLR end connector. Simply leave the short cable screwed onto the mic at all time and only attach any longer XLR cable with a male 1/4 inch end connector.
An XLR to XLR extension cable will not work. Again, it's not balanced. The short cable is far more practical than a longer 15 foot cable. Cable is soft, pliable and free of damage.A great conversation piece anywhere it sits or is used in the home, studio or office. As with all my vintage microphones for sale.. I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. Simply return in the same nice condition... INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...
